The Trinidad brand traces its roots back to 1969, when it was first produced at Havana’s famous El Laguito factory using selected leaves similar to those of Cohiba, but without the extra fermentation stage. For many years Trinidad cigars were not sold commercially: they were produced in tiny quantities and reserved exclusively as diplomatic gifts, making them one of Cuba’s true “best‑kept secrets”. Production was extremely limited, with only a small number of boxes leaving Cuba each month, and for decades Trinidad could only be obtained through official channels or high‑level contacts.

Trinidad was finally launched for public sale in 1998 and rapidly gained a reputation for its refined, creamy, aromatic profile and its distinctive pigtail‑finished cigars such as the Fundadores, Reyes and later Vigía. Today, Trinidad is considered one of Habanos S.A.’s “Alto” (top‑tier) brands, standing alongside Cohiba and Montecristo in terms of prestige, limited production and elegant presentation.
