Overview And Tasting Notes

The Partagás Capitols is a distinguished addition to the Línea Retro series, reviving the classic Mareva (Petit Corona) format in a stylish, vintage-inspired tin. Measuring 5⅛" × 42, this Cuban cigar is hand-rolled from long-filler Vuelta Abajo tobaccos and delivers the full-bodied intensity and robust character that define Partagás — a rich, traditional Havana experience in a compact, collectible presentation. With a 40–50 minute smoke, it’s ideal when you want depth and complexity without a long commitment. The Capitols was inspired by a popular machine-made version of the same name, discontinued in the mid-1980s — and it tastes every bit as good as it looks.

About Partagás

The Partagás brand was established in 1845 by Don Jaime Partagás y Ravelo, a Spanish immigrant who became a true pioneer of the Cuban cigar industry. He was among the first to experiment seriously with fermentation and ageing, and he introduced the tradition of the lector — a reader who entertains and educates the rollers — a practice that continues in Havana factories to this day. Don Jaime acquired prime Vuelta Abajo plantations to secure the world’s finest tobacco, setting Partagás apart from the outset. His story ended in tragedy — he was murdered on one of his plantations in 1868 — and the brand passed through several hands, including the Cifuentes family, who expanded its reach into the global icon it is today.

Tasting Notes of the Partagás Capitols

A robust, opulent, full-bodied Petit Corona.

- Initial Third: Opens with robust leather, oak and dark chocolate; the smoke is thick and opulent, immediately full-bodied, with subtle roasted nuts and a touch of earthiness.

- Middle Third: Intensified wood and leather join a spicy chilli aftertaste and warming pepper; creamy cedar and cinnamon emerge, with floral sweetness and white pepper on the retrohale, and occasional notes of citrus and salt.

- Final Third: Richness peaks with pronounced coffee, spice and a lingering peppery finish; balanced by dried fruit, hay and a touch of buttered popcorn — robust yet refined, with the classic Partagás depth.

- Aroma: A bouquet of cedar, cocoa, earth and subtle spice, with hints of barnyard and floral sweetness.

Pairs beautifully with strong black coffee, aged rum or single malt Scotch.

Fun Facts About the Partagás Capitols

The Capitols revives the name of a popular machine-made Partagás discontinued in the mid-1980s — reborn here as a hand-rolled, long-filler Cuban in the Línea Retro series, complete with vintage-style tin.

It uses the classic Mareva (Petit Corona) size — a traditional, everyday Cuban format that packs the brand’s full-bodied intensity into a shorter, 40–50 minute smoke.

The Línea Retro line is all about nostalgia — reviving old names, formats and packaging from the brand’s past, which makes the Capitols as much a collector’s piece as a smoke.
