Overview And Tasting Notes
The Plasencia Alma del Fuego Candente is a bold, medium-to-full-bodied Nicaraguan puro — the “Soul of Fire,” named for the volcanic island at the heart of its blend. A soft box-pressed Robusto measuring 5" × 50, it is built around tobacco from Ometepe, a fresh-water island in Lake Nicaragua formed by two volcanoes (Concepción and Maderas) whose mineral-rich soil produces some of the most distinctive tobacco on earth. Ometepe leaf makes up roughly three-quarters of the blend — used in a double binder and the filler, and aged for a full seven years — beneath a sweet, oily Nicaraguan sun-grown wrapper from the Jalapa Valley. The result is a powerful yet refined cigar of earth, coffee and cacao layered with sweet spice and a charred-oak finish. The Alma del Fuego line earned a 93 rating and a place on Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 of 2019.

About Plasencia
Plasencia is a legendary name in premium cigars, with a family tobacco heritage dating back to 1865. Now in its fifth generation, the Plasencia family is one of the largest growers of premium tobacco in the world — supplying leaf to many of the industry’s most famous brands — while producing acclaimed cigars under its own label, blended by Néstor Andrés Plasencia. The family’s mastery of terroir is the thread through their range, and the Alma (“soul”) series celebrates specific tobaccos and places. Their Reserva Original line is a landmark achievement — the world’s first cigar made entirely from 100% certified organic tobacco — reflecting a dedication to quality, tradition and environmental stewardship that sets the family apart.
Tasting Notes of the Plasencia Alma del Fuego Candente
A bold, spicy, medium-to-full Nicaraguan puro shaped by volcanic soil.
- Initial Third: Opens with up-front earth, coffee and cacao, a slight pepper building over a rich, mineral tobacco base.
- Middle Third: Develops sweet spices, red chilli, dark chocolate and a warm, smoky sweetness, with hints of tangerine, roasted cashew and guava wood from the Ometepe leaf.
- Final Third: Concentrates into a charred-oak finish with lingering pepper, coffee and a nutty sweetness; heavy on the medium-full end but silky-smooth throughout.
- Aroma: Rich earth, roasted coffee, cocoa, herbs and sweet spice.
- Mouthfeel: Dense, oily and smooth, with the even burn and full smoke output of a well-made box press.

Fun Facts About the Plasencia Alma del Fuego Candente
“Alma del Fuego” means “Soul of Fire,” and the vitola name “Candente” means glowing — both a nod to the volcanic origins of the tobacco and the way a cigar burns. The theme runs right through the blend.
Roughly 75% of the tobacco comes from Ometepe, a volcanic island in Lake Nicaragua — and Plasencia ages that Ometepe leaf for a full seven years, longer than the rest of the blend, to bring out its full potential.
The Plasencia family are one of the world’s largest premium tobacco growers, supplying leaf to many famous brands — so with the Alma del Fuego you’re tasting the family’s own tobacco, front and centre, rather than as a supporting player in someone else’s cigar.
