Overview And Tasting Notes

The Montecristo Double Edmundo is the most substantial vitola in the Edmundo family — measuring 155mm with a 50 ring gauge in the Doble Robusto format, delivering the full Montecristo balanced character with greater complexity and depth than the original Edmundo. Medium-bodied with cedar, coffee, leather and a refined, long finish across approximately 60 minutes, the Double Edmundo is the choice for Montecristo aficionados who want more time with one of Cuba's most beloved brands.

About Montecristo

Montecristo is the world's best-selling Cuban cigar brand — first produced in 1935 at the H. Upmann factory in Havana, where rollers named it after Alexandre Dumas' novel The Count of Monte Cristo, which they read aloud during rolling sessions. The classic range — No. 1 through No. 5 — represents some of the most balanced and consistently excellent Cuban cigars ever made. Today Montecristo is produced at the Francisco Donatién factory in Pinar del Río and encompasses the classic range, the Edmundo family, the Open series, and the prestigious Línea 1935.

Tasting Notes of the Montecristo Double Edmundo

The Double Edmundo delivers the classic Montecristo profile with the depth that comes from its larger ring gauge and extended smoke time.

- Pre-light: Cedar, sweet tobacco and a characteristic Montecristo earthiness.

- First Third: Cedar and coffee open cleanly, with a gentle sweetness and smooth draw. The Montecristo balance is immediately evident.

- Second Third: Leather, nuts and dried fruit develop alongside continued coffee. The wider ring gauge allows more complexity than the standard Edmundo.

- Final Third: Black pepper and earth emerge, with a long, refined finish. Medium-bodied throughout.

- Overall: Medium-bodied, balanced and satisfying — the Montecristo character at its most developed.

Fun Facts About the Montecristo Double Edmundo

The Edmundo family — Edmundo, Double Edmundo and Petit Edmundo — was created in response to the growing popularity of wider ring gauge cigars in the early 2000s. The Doble Robusto format of the Double Edmundo represented one of the widest ring gauges in the Cuban portfolio at its launch.

Montecristo's name comes from a reading tradition at the H. Upmann factory in 1935, where a lector — a professional reader employed to entertain workers — read Alexandre Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo aloud during rolling sessions. The workers loved it so much they named their new cigar after it.

Montecristo is the world's best-selling Cuban cigar brand — consistently outselling every other Habanos brand in export markets, driven largely by the extraordinary global reputation of the classic No. 2 and No. 4.

FAQ About the Montecristo Double Edmundo

How does the Double Edmundo compare to the Edmundo?
The Double Edmundo is longer and wider (155mm × 50 vs 135mm × 52), delivering a fuller, more developed smoke across 60 minutes. The Edmundo is the more compact daily option; the Double Edmundo is for when you have more time.

Is it good for beginners?
Its medium body makes it accessible to smokers with some Cuban cigar experience. If you're new to Cuban cigars, the Montecristo Open Regata or Petit Tubos would be a gentler starting point.

How long does it take to smoke?
Approximately 60 minutes at a relaxed pace.

What does EMS mean?
English Market Selection — confirming the cigars arrived via the official Habanos UK importer Hunters & Frankau and passed additional authenticity and condition checks.
