Out of stockThe H. Upmann No. 2 is one of the most celebrated torpedo-format cigars in the entire Habanos portfolio — a Pirámide vitola measuring 156mm with a 52 ring gauge that delivers a medium-bodied smoke of genuine complexity. Hand-rolled in Havana using select tobaccos from the Vuelta Abajo region, it builds steadily from a creamy, cedar-led opening through a rich mid-section of dried fruit and leather before finishing with subtle spice and lingering cocoa. It carries a Cigar Aficionado score of 94 — one of the highest ratings ever awarded to an H. Upmann vitola.
Founded in Havana in 1844 by German banker Hermann Dietrich Upmann, H. Upmann is one of Cuba's oldest and most distinguished cigar houses. Upmann arrived in Cuba to expand his family's banking interests but became captivated by the tobacco industry, purchasing a factory and producing cigars under his own name. The brand is credited with introducing the cedar cigar box — a practice that became the global standard — and with creating some of the most refined blends in the Habanos portfolio. Today H. Upmann is revered for elegance and consistency across formats from the compact Half Corona to the stately Sir Winston.
The No. 2 opens gently and evolves with exceptional grace across its 75-minute smoke time.
- Pre-light: Cedar, sweet tobacco and a faint cocoa note from the wrapper.
- First Third: Cream, cedar and light toast — smooth and measured, with white pepper on the retrohale and a gentle nuttiness developing.
- Second Third: Dried fruit and leather emerge alongside roasted coffee and hazelnut. The body builds to medium without losing its refinement.
- Final Third: Subtle spice, lingering cocoa and a long smooth finish. The tapered head concentrates the flavours beautifully.
- Overall: Medium-bodied, complex and deeply satisfying — a benchmark torpedo cigar.

The Pirámide vitola tapers to a pointed head, concentrating heat and flavour at the lit end for a richer, more complex draw than a straight-sided cigar of similar length.
Hermann Upmann ran both a cigar factory and a bank in Havana simultaneously — the bank financed tobacco growers and merchants across the island.
H. Upmann is one of only a handful of Havana brands to have been continuously produced since the 19th century.
How strong is the H. Upmann No. 2?
Medium-bodied — more complex and fuller than the Magnum 46, but without the intensity of a full-bodied Cuban. Best suited to intermediate and experienced smokers.
How long does it take to smoke?
Approximately 75 minutes at a relaxed pace.
What is a Pirámide vitola?
A torpedo-shaped cigar that tapers to a pointed head. The taper concentrates the smoke and flavours, delivering a richer, more evolving experience than a straight-sided format.
What does EMS mean?
English Market Selection — confirming the cigars arrived via the official Habanos UK importer and passed additional authenticity and condition checks.
