Overview And Tasting Notes

The Cohiba Maduro 5 Magicos is one of the most distinctive cigars in the entire Cuban portfolio — a Genios vitola measuring 140mm with a 52 ring gauge, introduced in 2007 as the flagship of the Maduro 5 range. Unlike most Cuban maduros, the Maduro 5 uses a wrapper that has undergone five separate fermentations — the "5" in the name — producing a leaf of extraordinary darkness, oiliness and complexity. Medium to full-bodied with dark chocolate, coffee, leather and a long sweet finish, the Magicos is one of the most sought-after Cuban cigars among collectors and aficionados worldwide.

About Cohiba

Cohiba is Cuba's most prestigious cigar brand — created in 1966 as a private blend for Fidel Castro and senior Cuban officials before becoming available to the public in 1982. Produced exclusively at El Laguito factory in Havana, Cohiba is the only Cuban brand to use a unique triple fermentation process for its ligero leaves, delivering exceptional complexity and refinement. Today Cohiba encompasses the classic Línea 1492 (Siglo I through VI), the ultra-premium Behike line incorporating the rare Medio Tiempo leaf, and the Maduro 5 range.

Tasting Notes of the Cohiba Maduro 5 Magicos

The Magicos delivers a rich, dark and layered smoking experience — the five-fermentation maduro wrapper bringing a sweetness and complexity rarely found in Cuban cigars.

- Pre-light: Deep cocoa and dark earth from the oily five-fermentation maduro wrapper, with a characteristic sweetness.

- First Third: Dark chocolate and espresso establish themselves immediately, with leather and a gentle pepper on the retrohale. The draw is full and satisfying.

- Second Third: Dried fruit, roasted coffee and dark wood develop alongside continued cocoa. The maduro sweetness integrates beautifully with the Cohiba complexity.

- Final Third: Black pepper, leather and a long sweet finish — the five-fermentation wrapper's characteristic sweetness carries through to the very end.

- Overall: Medium to full-bodied, dark and deeply satisfying — a Cuban maduro unlike any other.

Fun Facts About the Cohiba Maduro 5 Magicos

The "5" in Maduro 5 refers to the five separate fermentation cycles the wrapper leaf undergoes — a process unique in the Cuban cigar world. Standard maduro wrappers undergo two to three fermentations; this extra processing creates the extraordinary darkness and sweetness that defines the range.

The Magicos vitola (140mm × 52 ring gauge) was chosen specifically for the Maduro 5 flagship — its wider ring gauge maximises the interaction between the five-fermentation wrapper and the Cohiba filler blend, delivering the full expression of the range.

Cohiba is the only Cuban brand produced exclusively at a single factory — El Laguito in Havana, originally a mansion that was converted into a cigar school and factory in the 1960s.

FAQ About the Cohiba Maduro 5 Magicos

What makes the Cohiba Maduro 5 different from other Cuban maduros?
The Maduro 5 uses a wrapper that has undergone five separate fermentations — far more than the two or three typical of most maduro cigars. This produces an exceptionally dark, oily, sweet wrapper unlike anything else in the Cuban portfolio.

Is the Cohiba Maduro 5 Magicos suitable for beginners?
Its medium to full body and maduro intensity make it best suited to experienced smokers. If you're new to Cuban cigars, start with the Cohiba Siglo I or Siglo II before working up to the Maduro 5.

How long does it take to smoke?
Approximately 60 minutes at a relaxed pace for the Genios vitola.

What does EMS mean?
English Market Selection — confirming the cigars arrived via the official Habanos UK importer Hunters & Frankau and passed additional authenticity and condition checks.
