The Perla Del Mar Corojo Corona Gorda is a medium-bodied, box-pressed cigar meticulously hand-rolled at J.C. Newman’s PENSA factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. Measuring 5 1/2 inches (140 mm) with a 46 ring gauge, this Corona Gorda features a robust Ecuadorian Corojo wrapper over select Nicaraguan binder and long-filler tobaccos from four distinct regions: Pueblo Nuevo, La Reina, Condega, and Jalapa. The Tampa-style press creates a unique rectangular shape, allowing the tobaccos’ flavours to marry and deliver a smooth, complex, and balanced smoke. Its construction ensures an even burn and a satisfying draw, making it ideal for both everyday enjoyment and special occasions.
Cigar Aficionado: 'Neatly pressed with a clean wrapper and multi-seamed cap, this slim toro has an even burn and draw. Sweet notes of caramel and vanilla meld with black pepper, espresso and wood with a touch of smoky peat before a finish that hints of nougat.'
Perla Del Mar is a heritage cigar brand with roots tracing back to Cuba in 1905, when four Cuban brothers began hand-rolling cigars using family-grown tobacco. The name, meaning “Pearl of the Sea,” pays homage to Cuba’s Caribbean waters. The brand became one of the leading premium cigars of the early 20th century and was later revived by J.C. Newman to honour its rich legacy. Today, Perla Del Mar cigars are crafted in Nicaragua, blending tradition with modern expertise and consistently earning high ratings for quality and value.
PERLA DEL MAR COROJO CORONA GORDA TASTING NOTES
- Initial Third: Bright, sweet notes of caramel and vanilla, accented by a lively citrus aroma. Hints of cedar, salted peanut shells, and a touch of white pepper on the retrohale. Subtle undertones of leather, cocoa, and earth provide depth.
- Middle Third: Sweetness tapers, giving way to creamy cedar, toasted nuts, and mild cabinet spice. Earth and natural tobacco notes become more prominent, with dried fruit occasionally appearing. White pepper and raisin sweetness increase on the retrohale, balanced by espresso and hay.
- Final Third: The profile intensifies with more pronounced earth and pepper spice. Notes of wood, natural tobacco, and faint dried fruit linger in the background. The finish is clean, creamy, and satisfying, with a hint of nougat and smoky peat.
- Aroma: Expect a bouquet of sweet cedar, leather, peanuts, milk chocolate, and vanilla, with a creamy, slightly spicy character.
- Mouthfeel: The smoke is smooth and creamy, with a velvet-like texture and a consistently even burn thanks to the box-pressed format.
