Overview And Tasting Notes

The Joya de Nicaragua Clásico Torpedo is a European best-seller and a staple of the brand’s core line-up. It pairs a silky Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper with a Nicaraguan binder and filler, giving a mild, approachable, woody and delicate profile that suits newcomers and seasoned aficionados alike. The Clásico is a piece of history: its original blend was the very first Nicaraguan puro ever exported from Nicaragua, and Joya remains the only brand ever officially recognised as the country’s national cigar. Smooth, elegant and beautifully rolled in the demanding torpedo shape, it’s a gentle, refined introduction to Nicaraguan tobacco.

About Joya de Nicaragua

Joya de Nicaragua is Nicaragua’s oldest premium cigar brand, established in 1968 in Estelí — the first factory to craft premium handmade cigars in the country, and the pioneer of the entire Nicaraguan cigar industry. Its early fame was extraordinary: in 1971 it was named the official cigar of the Nixon White House, helping put Nicaraguan tobacco on the world map. The brand survived revolution, embargo and the destruction of its factory, rebuilt by its own workers, and today — under the Martínez family — stands as a symbol of Nicaraguan heritage, celebrated worldwide for its rich, complex blends and artisanal craftsmanship.

Tasting Notes of the Joya de Nicaragua Clásico Torpedo

A smooth, delicate, balanced and mild smoke.

- Pre-Light: Aromas of cedar, hay and light creaminess.

- First Third: Creamy and mild, with wood, toasted nuts and a subtle sweetness; hints of berry and black pepper add nuance, while the retrohale offers gentle spice.

- Mid-Smoke: Deepens with more pronounced cedar, earth and a touch of cream; wood and cream alternate in intensity over a background of mild pepper and earthiness.

- Final Third: Woody notes become dominant, with lingering creaminess, earth and a subtle peppery finish; cool and smooth right down to the nub.

- Aroma: Light, with woody and nutty undertones and a touch of floral sweetness.

Fun Facts About the Joya de Nicaragua Clásico Torpedo

The Clásico’s original blend holds a genuine historical first: it was the very first Nicaraguan puro ever exported from Nicaragua — the cigar that began the country’s now world-famous tobacco industry.

Joya de Nicaragua is the only brand ever to be officially recognised as Nicaragua’s national cigar — a distinction that reflects how central it is to the country’s identity and history.

Unusually for Joya, the Clásico wears a pale, silky Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper rather than a dark Nicaraguan leaf — a deliberately mild, elegant style that makes it one of the brand’s most approachable cigars.

FAQ About the Joya de Nicaragua Clásico Torpedo

Is the Clásico Torpedo good for beginners?
Yes — it’s mild, smooth and delicate, with a silky Connecticut wrapper, which makes it one of the most approachable Nicaraguan cigars, while its history and refinement appeal to seasoned smokers too.

What makes it historically significant?
Its original blend was the first Nicaraguan puro ever exported from Nicaragua, and Joya is the only brand ever officially recognised as the country’s national cigar.

Is a torpedo harder to smoke?
