Charatan is a historic British cigar brand, founded in 1863 by Frederick Charatan in London. Originally established as a tobacconist and pipe manufacturer on Mansell Street, the brand remained family-run for nearly a century. After the Charatan family’s involvement ended in 1960, the business was acquired by Dunhill Tobacco of London, which helped propel Charatan cigars to the top of the UK market, especially during the 1990s when they became the #1 Nicaraguan brand in the country. In recent years, production moved to the renowned Joya de Nicaragua factory, ensuring a premium handmade cigar that honours Charatan’s legacy while appealing to modern tastes.
