Overview And Tasting Notes

The AJ Fernandez Días de Gloria Brazil is a bold, box‑pressed Nicaraguan cigar that fuses the rich traditions of Brazilian and Nicaraguan tobacco into one modern, full‑flavoured blend. Rolled at Tabacalera AJ Fernandez in Estelí, it pairs a dark, oily Brazilian Mata Fina maduro wrapper with a hearty Nicaraguan binder and long‑filler core, delivering a medium‑to‑full to full‑bodied profile with plenty of sweetness, spice and earth. Presented in vibrant green boxes that echo the Brazilian flag, Días de Gloria Brazil is a visual and sensory tribute to Brazil’s rich tobacco heritage and a bolder, darker spin on AJ’s original Días de Gloria concept, which honoured the “glory days” of pre‑Castro Cuban cigars.

Compared with the original Nicaraguan‑puro Días de Gloria, the Brazil version leans further into dark chocolate, espresso, leather and pepper, while maintaining the creamy texture and aromatic nuance that have made the line so popular. Reviewers describe the Brazil expression as full‑bodied with sweet, spicy and earthy notes, combining semi‑sweet chocolate and coffee with black pepper, wood, mesquite and a peripheral, earthy sweetness that evolves as you smoke. Construction is typically excellent for AJ: smooth draw, slow, even burn and ample smoke output from the box‑pressed format.

About AJ Fernandez Cigars

AJ Fernandez is one of the defining figures in modern Nicaraguan cigars, known for his intense, flavour‑forward blends and complete control over the growing, processing and rolling of his tobaccos. A third‑generation cigar maker raised in Cuba’s Pinar del Río region, AJ moved to Nicaragua and built a vertically integrated network of farms and factories across Estelí, Condega and other key valleys, producing cigars both under his own name and for many other brands.

The original Días de Gloria, released in 2019, was a Nicaraguan puro created as a tribute to the “glory days” of Cuban tobacco before the revolution, using tobaccos from four of the Fernandez family’s oldest farms. Días de Gloria Brazil extends that idea by bringing Brazilian Mata Fina into the mix, celebrating the union of two powerful tobacco traditions – Brazil and Nicaragua – while still being blended and produced at AJ’s Estelí factory. For smokers who enjoy intensity, complexity and authenticity, AJ’s cigars are a natural choice, and Días de Gloria Brazil is one of his most distinctive releases.

AJ Fernandez Días de Gloria Brazil – Tasting Notes

The Días de Gloria Brazil offers a rich, layered profile with pronounced dark chocolate, coffee and pepper, supported by nutty, savoury and subtly sweet accents.

Unlit & cold draw:
The wrapper gives off aromas of leather, milky mocha and a spicy, umami meatiness, while the foot suggests dark‑chocolate‑covered raisins, coffee liqueur and raw cookie dough. The cold draw can evoke oatmeal cream cookies, rum‑soaked raisins and damp earth, hinting at the dessert‑meets‑BBQ character to come.

Initial third:
Opens with a burst of rich dark chocolate, espresso and a touch of cedar. Pepper spice – black and red – is prominent, especially on the retrohale, while a creamy undertone and Brazil‑nut notes emerge. Hints of cinnamon, mild chilli powder and brown sugar add early complexity and warmth.

Middle third:
The profile deepens with more pronounced cedar, warming spice and a continued presence of cinnamon. Earthy, mushroom‑like notes and a subtle molasses sweetness develop, balanced by savoury undertones that can recall roasted pecans, leather and grilled meat. The body stays medium‑to‑full, with the creaminess thickening as the cigar progresses.

Final third:
The cigar intensifies with oaky barrel char, floral sweetness and lingering black pepper. Nutty‑brownie and cinnamon notes persist, joined by dark chocolate, espresso and hints of dark brown sugar and cedar, culminating in a robust, satisfying finish with occasional savoury, meaty flashes and a touch of menthol on the retrohale.

Aroma & character:
Expect a bouquet of spices, leather, mocha, cedar and floral sweetness, with a creamy, airy quality and moments of honey‑like and brown‑sugar sweetness over an earthy, peppery core.

Fun Facts About Días de Gloria Brazil & AJ Fernandez

Two worlds, one blend: Días de Gloria Brazil is the second expression in the Días de Gloria line – the original is a Nicaraguan puro, while Brazil adds a Mata Fina wrapper to symbolise the union of Brazil and Nicaragua in a single cigar.

Name with a story: “Días de Gloria” (“Glory Days”) refers to the era of Cuban cigars before Castro – AJ has said these were the days he wanted to evoke using tobacco from his family’s oldest Nicaraguan farms.

Mata Fina magic: Brazilian Mata Fina is prized for its natural sweetness and aromatic, cocoa‑and‑coffee character; in this blend it adds dessert‑like depth and a distinctive, “Brazilian” accent to AJ’s typically bold Nicaraguan core.

Box‑pressed by design: The Brazil line is released in an attractive set of box‑pressed vitolas, which not only look sharp in their green‑themed boxes but also help deliver a cooler draw, slower burn and more concentrated flavour.

Other AJ Fernandez & Nicaraguan Cigars We Recommend

If you enjoy the dark, spicy‑sweet character of Días de Gloria Brazil, the AJ Fernandez New World Dorado Robusto is a natural next step. Where Días de Gloria Brazil leans into Brazilian sweetness and heavy Nicaraguan earth, the Dorado offers a slightly brighter, caramel‑and‑orange‑peel profile built around tobacco from AJ’s golden‑soiled Dorado farm, still with plenty of cocoa, nuts and espresso in the mix.
