The Casa Turrent Serie 1973 Robusto is a medium-bodied, box-pressed cigar crafted in Mexico to honour the birth year of Alejandro Turrent, a leading figure in the world of premium Mexican cigars. Measuring 5 1/4 inches (133 mm) with a 50 ring gauge, this robusto is hand-rolled at Nueva Matacapan de Tabacos S.A. de C.V. The blend features a Criollo wrapper from San Andrés, a Nicaraguan binder, and a filler composed of aged Criollo San Andrés and Nicaraguan tobaccos. The construction ensures a smooth draw and even burn, while the cigar’s profile highlights the unique character of San Andrés Criollo leaf - showcasing the Turrent family’s legacy as Mexico’s first family of tobacco. If you love cigars with Mexican San Andrés in the blend, then you have the Turrent family to thank. That is because for the more than 100 years, the Turrent family as been growing Mexican San Andrés tobacco, and in fact, has become the de facto supplier of these specific leaves.
Cigar Aficionado: 'All the Mexican tobacco in the blend was grown by the Turrents, who provide San Andrés leaf to much of the industry. They make the cigar as well. When bolstered by some Nicaraguan filler, the Torpedo gives the sensation of chewing on chocolate-covered almonds. Black tea and cinnamon tones add complexity, but nutty sweetness abounds here. The series is named for the birthyear of brand owner Alejandro Turrent, who changes our perception of Mexican tobacco.'
Casa Turrent is the flagship brand of the Turrent family, who have been cultivating tobacco in the San Andrés Valley since 1880. Today, Alberto and Alejandro Turrent continue the tradition, producing some of Mexico’s most acclaimed cigars and supplying high-quality San Andrés tobacco to renowned brands worldwide. Casa Turrent cigars are celebrated for their boutique craftsmanship, innovative blends, and the use of estate-grown Mexican tobaccos. The Serie 1973 reflects the family’s commitment to quality and the evolution of Mexican cigarmaking, combining tradition with a modern, boutique approach.
