Cohiba 1966 Edicion Limitada 2011

Released to celebrate the brand’s 45th anniversary, the Cohiba 1966 Edición Limitada 2011 is a standout limited edition cigar. It features a unique “Cañonazo Especial” vitola, measuring 166 mm in length with a 52 ring gauge and a signature pigtail cap. The cigar is hand-rolled with select tobaccos from San Juan y Martínez and San Luis in the Vuelta Abajo region, each leaf aged for a minimum of two years to achieve exceptional richness and complexity. The cigar is creamy in the right places, leathery in the right places and rounded out the savoury aspects with a milk chocolate sweetness.

Cohiba was established in the 1960s as a private brand for Fidel Castro and high-ranking Cuban officials. The name “Cohiba” comes from the Taino word for tobacco, reflecting the island’s indigenous heritage. Initially, Cohiba cigars were not available to the public and were reserved for diplomatic gifts and government use. Their exclusivity and quality quickly made them a symbol of luxury and status. The brand was officially launched for public sale in 1982, with the Línea Clásica. The Línea 1492, including the Siglo I, debuted in 1992 to mark Columbus’s quincentenary. Cohiba is known for its unique production process, including an extra barrel fermentation for the filler leaves, which imparts a distinctive smoothness and aroma found only in Cohiba cigars. The Cohiba 1966 Edición Limitada 2011 offers a rich, evolving, and sophisticated smoking experience.

- Pre-Light: Aromas of cocoa, hay, and earth.

- First Third: Creamy and smooth, with notes of caramel, cashew, molasses, and a touch of mint. Tangy tobacco and soft, lactic sweetness emerge, complemented by floral and vegetal nuances.

- Mid-Smoke: Flavours deepen with espresso, dark chocolate, and leather. Hints of black pepper, honey, hazelnut, and subtle spice create a complex, layered profile. The smoke remains creamy and abundant.

- Final Third: The body intensifies, bringing forward notes of bitter chocolate, earth, liquorice, and a lingering sweetness. The finish is long, with a balance of savoury, nutty, and slightly salty undertones.
