Partagas Legado Edición Limitada 2020

The Partagás Legado Edición Limitada 2020 is a prestigious, limited-edition Cuban cigar released to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the iconic Partagás brand. Presented in the Hermosos No.2 vitola, this cigar measures 6 1/8 inches (157 mm) with a 48 ring gauge, making it a substantial smoke crafted for collectors and aficionados alike. Each cigar is meticulously hand-rolled in Cuba using long-filler tobaccos from the renowned Vuelta Abajo region, with all leaves aged for a minimum of two years. The Legado is presented in elegant black and gold lacquered boxes of 25, underscoring its collectible and celebratory nature. Although delayed due to the global pandemic, these beautiful cigars presented in lacquered wooden boxes are proving to be well worth the wait. Today it is a size reserved for special releases, most recently with the Quai d’Orsay Senadores (2019 Limited Edition).

Legado translates into English as Legacy and, as a testimony to its founder’s belief in the importance of the raw material used to roll his cigars, Partagás still selects all its leaf from the Vuelta Abajo tobacco region in Cuba. Characterised as rich, deep, and earthy, Partagás is a full flavoured brand with a rustic edge. The slight sweetness found in the darker, maduro wrapper leaf adds another layer of flavour to the classic Partagás taste. A fitting tribute to the legacy of Jaime Partagás Ravelo. 

The Partagás brand was established by Don Jaime Partagás y Ravelo, a Spanish immigrant who became a pioneer in the Cuban cigar industry. He was among the first to experiment with fermentation and aging techniques, and he introduced the tradition of employing a “reader” to entertain and educate factory workers - a practice that continues in Havana today. Don Jaime acquired prime plantations in the Vuelta Abajo region, renowned for producing the world’s finest tobacco. This commitment to quality raw materials set Partagás apart from its inception. Don Jaime Partagás was a visionary but met a tragic end - he was murdered on one of his plantations in 1868. The brand passed through several hands, including the Cifuentes family, who expanded its reach and influence. 

PARTAGAS LEGADO EDICIÓN LIMITADA 2020 TASTING NOTES

- Initial Third: Opens with earthy intensity, roasted espresso, and pepper spice. Notes of woody oak, graham cracker, and a subtle sweetness reminiscent of caramel and orange rind. Hints of salt and a touch of floral aroma may be present.

- Middle Third: Flavours deepen with leather, cedar, and dark cocoa. Black pepper becomes more pronounced, joined by roasted coffee, chocolate, and a creamy undertone. Subtle notes of dried fruits, cinnamon, and honey appear, adding complexity.

- Final Third: The profile crescendos with charred wood, bold tannins, and sweet tobacco. Spices intensify, leather smooths the palate, and a long, warming finish emerges. Aftertaste features cocoa, raisins, hazelnuts, vanilla, and molasses, with a persistent, satisfying complexity.

- Aroma: Expect a bouquet of woody, toasted, and roasted notes, with hints of leather, smoked cedar, cocoa, dried fruit, and sweet spice. The smoke is creamy and dense, with a velvet-like texture and a commanding presence.

- Mouthfeel: The Legado is smooth and chewy, offering a medium to full-bodied experience with a consistently even burn and a long, persistent aftertaste.
