For many years Cohiba was intended solely as a gift to government personalities, national and foreign, and of course to President Fidel Castro
The Cohiba Pirámides Edición Limitada 2006 is a highly coveted limited edition release, announced in 2006 and reaching international markets in 2007. This cigar marked the sixth release in the Edición Limitada series, and it was the last year when only the wrapper leaf was aged prior to rolling. From 2007 onward, all components (wrapper, binder, and filler) in Edición Limitada cigars would be aged for a minimum of two years. This Limited Edition Cohiba cigar is now smoking spectacularly well, producing some of the finest Cohiba tasting notes that aficionados worldwide can recognise as the unmistakeable Cohiba flavour. Incredibly hard to find, the Piramides EL 2006 is not to be confused with its regular production counterpart, the Cohiba Piramides Extra, which is slightly longer and fatter (160mm x 54) versus 156mm by 52. This Cuban Cigar is a must have for any cigar collector interested in adding a statement piece to their cellar.
Cohiba was established in the 1960s as a private brand for Fidel Castro and high-ranking Cuban officials. The name “Cohiba” comes from the Taino word for tobacco, reflecting the island’s indigenous heritage. Initially, Cohiba cigars were not available to the public and were reserved for diplomatic gifts and government use. Their exclusivity and quality quickly made them a symbol of luxury and status. The brand was officially launched for public sale in 1982, with the Línea Clásica. The Línea 1492, including the Siglo I, debuted in 1992 to mark Columbus’s quincentenary. Cohiba is known for its unique production process, including an extra barrel fermentation for the filler leaves, which imparts a distinctive smoothness and aroma found only in Cohiba cigars. Today, Cohiba is the flagship brand of Habanos S.A., recognized worldwide for its quality, innovation, and association with Cuban heritage and prestige.
